Stories about people who try to make the most of what they have always touch us. Whether it be a story of a physically challeged ice candy vendor who goes around using his make-shift wheelchair, or a photo of an old man selling vegetables in the middle of a typhoon, hard-working people who are less fortunate in life never fail to make our hearts melt. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to help them, even in our own small ways. This is exactly what a netizen did after she spotted an old man selling toys on the side of a street.
A netizen named Divine Viejon took to Facebook to share photos and a video of a toy vendor she spotted on the sidewalks of General Santos Avenue, Taguig City. According to her, she was with her cousin one day when the old man piqued her attention.
The old man was sitting outside what seemed to be the gate of a building, trying to demonstrate the small toys that he was selling. He was repeatedly winding the keys on the side of the toys to make them walk, trying to impress the passersby. However, no one seemed to mind him. This was when Divine and her cousin approached him.
She asked him how much the toys were, and was told that they only cost Php 25 each. The old man asked her if she wanted to buy one for her cousin whom he thought was her sister. He then excitedly showed her how the toys work, which Divine said was really entertaining after a long day at work. The netizen then told him that she really intended to buy them not for her cousin, but for herself, as she was very amused.
Wanting to help him more, Divine shared photos and a video of him on Facebook. She urged other netizens to buy toys from him should they happen to find themselves in the Bicutan area.
Touched by the old man’s story, netizens promised they would buy from the toy vendor if they see him, while a number commended him for being hardworking:
