According to the Philippine Star, his body was discovered hanging by the door with his tongue out. He was identified as Rodolfo Urmanita. Authorities found out he used shoelaces to hang himself.
He was a college student pursuing an education degree at the Cagayan State University.
Urmanita’s body was discovered by the landlady of the boarding house where he was residing in Barangay Caritan Norte, Tuguegarao City.
Based on the report that was received by Police Superintendent Edward Guzman, chief of Tuguegarao City Police Station, the landlady shouted when she saw the college student’s body at around 8:30 a.m.
In an additional report from the Facebook page “National Union of Students of the Philippines,” it was cited that the student died on Jan. 16, 2018.
He suffered from depression, along with his ongoing financial problems that pertained to his tuition fees. Urmanita failed to pay his tuition for the first semester of the university’s academic year 2017-2018.
This resulted in him being unable to enroll for the second semester. They also mentioned that the college student had already started to review for the upcoming Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
Authorities also retrieved an emotional su!c!de note from Urmanita wherein he mentioned the separation of his parents. This, along with depression and the burden of financial problems, might have pushed him to end his life.
Further investigation revealed that his own relatives wouldn’t offer financial support to his tertiary studies.
This is not the first time that a student of the mentioned university has committed su!c!de. In February 2015, a student named Rosanna Sanfuego also decided to kill herself because of unpaid tuition fees.
