Now, ABS-CBN News reported that the volcano is already nearing a “hazardous eruption.” Around 27,000 people have been told to evacuate their residences.
Authorities have also raised the alert level of the volcano to level four, which is considered “one notch below the highest warning.” Alert level four means that a “vulcanian eruption” is currently ongoing.
The report mentioned that it is the second time in a week Mayon Volcano has spewed a huge ash cloud. On Jan. 14, 2018, the third alert level was raised by the authorities.
It also considered the country’s most active volcano to date.
Eruptions and rockfalls have begun to occur at the start of January. Eventually, the volcano’s crater visibly glowed. According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a new lava dome might form following the sudden activities of the volcano.
The Facebook page “Gov. Al Francis C. Bichara” also uploaded pictures of the Mayon Volcano on 12:58 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2018. Based on its caption, the classes of all public and private schools in the area are suspended on all levels.
The public – especially the third district of Albay – is also strongly advised to wear face masks and remain indoors due to the growing ash cloud from the volcano.
Another Facebook page called “Jekong” also shared a video of the volcano on 12:54 p.m. on the same day. A man recorded himself and said that Mayon Volcano has erupted.
Netizen Nico-rey Nuñez also shared two pictures of the volcano that featured a giant ash cloud forming. Another netizen, Marlon N. Rubis, shared a video version of the ash cloud against a transmission signal tower.
