An Unidetified Fisherman Discovered A Record-Breaking Giant Pearl In Island Of Palawan.

The Philippines would not be named as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas” for no reason. With over 7,000 islands to boast and thousands of scenic spots, it is not difficult to understand why our country, a tropical haven, deserves such title.

About 10 years ago, the discovery of a giant pearl has strengthened our claim to the title.

An unidentified fisherman spotted a giant pearl in Palawan. He thought the pearl would make a perfect “good luck charm,” so he decided to place the 34-kilogram gem inside his home, completely oblivious as to its real value.

Unfortunately, a fire ravaged his home which prompted him to move out. He was able to save his giant pearl and then he decided to give it to a tourism officer who also happens to be his aunt, Aileen Cynthia Amurao. It was only at that point when they realized that the fisherman discovered a pearl that is valuable and utterly expensive.

Amurao said:
“The fisherman threw the anchor down and it got stuck on a rock during a storm. He noticed that it was lodged on a shell and swam down to pull up the anchor, and also brought the shell with him. This was a decade ago and he kept it at home.”

The gem is 1ft wide and 2.2ft long. According to Strait Times, the gigantic pearl’s estimated price is $100 million, and that’s 5,190,550,000 billion in Philippine peso!
It seems that this gem could strip the Pearl of Lao Tzu of its title as the largest pearl in the world. The pearl was also discovered in Palawan.

Amurao is pretty confident that the island of Palawan would claim another title again.
“We were amazed when he brought it to us. We now need help from gemologists to fully certify it. We’re waiting for authentication from Gemologist Institute and other international authorities. But we believe Puerto Princesca is likely to earn another prestigious title and a record breaker for having the world’s biggest natural giant pearl from a giant clam.”
