Come December 25, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2017 officially opens with eight entries in different genres, such as fantasy, romantic comedy, and horror, among others. Of the eight, superhero flick “The Revenger Squad” of Vice Ganda is projected to become a box-office hit because of the movie’s all-star cast. However, some of the entries are also worth the time and money, especially if fantasy movies are not your cup of tea.
For veteran comedian and consistent MMFF starrer Vic Sotto, attaining the box-office target of Php1 billion for Vice’s movie is quite unthinkable since there are other entries viewers can choose from.
“Mathematically, it’s impossible. As a whole pwede. Baka yun yung sinasabi ni Vice,” he pointed out.
The 63-year-old also expressed his support for Vice should the latter achieve his goal, saying, “Sana nga maabot niya para mas maganda for a lot of people, for everyone.”
According to showbiz website PEP, Vic has been a constant presence during the annual film festival. In fact, his film this year is a reunion with former “Okay Ka, Fairy Ko” co-star Dawn Zulueta entitled “Meant to Beh.”
Back in his heyday, the Eat Bulaga host had a string of box-office hits with the “Enteng Kabisote” franchise. This time, Vic doesn’t wish for high gross earnings but for more people to watch the film festival movies.
“Hindi ko na iniisip yun, e. Sa tagal ko na sa festival, ang iniisip ko lang, maraming manood ng festival,” he said.
“Not for anything else, not to take away credit from the past festivals, I believe did well. I just want a lot of people to be happy, to be merry this Christmas na kahit anong type mong panoorin,” Vic continued.
“For me, personally, gusto ko maraming manood ng mga pelikula,” he added.
It was during a recent press conference when the “It’s Showtime” host said that his target for his superhero flick is Php1 billion, admitting that it was an overly ambitious goal.
“Siyempre, masaya kung malampasan. Gusto ko rin yun kaya nagke-claim ako, sinasabi ko, P1 billion, P1 billion! Sobrang ambisyosa ko,” Vice Ganda said. “Pero deadma ako. Kine claim ko lang naman.”
