Deepak Paswan suffered from a particularly unsightly condition – which left many kids of his age afraid of him. The young boy from India has partially developed arms and legs but the thing that caught everyone’s attention was the underdeveloped parasitic twin sticking out of his chest.
Whenever Deepak wears a plus-sized shirt, it just looks like he is hiding a child underneath his clothing. However, one glimpse at the disfigured feet of his parasitic twin peeking through the young boy’s shirt would catch anyone off guard.

In a culture as religious as India, the medical condition affecting Deepak signified something more for the locals. Some looked at him with horror, fearing that he was the reincarnation of the Devil. While some Hindu pilgrims went through great lengths just to see and worship Deepak – saying that the child is the incarnation of their god, Vishnu.

Whatever the reason for the spotlight cast on this innocent child, Deepak’s parents weren’t amused by the scrutiny the public were placing on him. The parents would rather have the parasitic twin surgically removed. They publicly appealed for anyone to help and the Fortis Hospital in Bangalore, India heeded their call.

Viresh Paswan, Deepak’s dad, said:
“We always wanted surgery to remove the parasitic twin to get rid of him being treated as a religious object by people.”

It was a dangerous procedure that could have taken the life of the young boy but after a grueling four-hour operation, Deepak Paswan was going to live life like a normal kid.
Chief surgeon Ramcharan Thiagrajan said:

“Due to all the mockery and stigma he has faced he is very restless and nervous. But now after this successful operation and counselling he will lead a normal life.”
