As he was working one day, he stumbled upon a black bag containing a whopping amount of cash worth around PHP 136,000 and an iPad which belonged to an airport passenger. The businessman, who left his bag in the toilet, was later identified as Simplicio Belisario Jr.
Despite being unfortunate in life, the honest janitor admitted that he did not think twice in returning the valuable belongings he found. Upon learning that the bag contains a large amount of money and an iPad, Ronnie decided to approach the airport manager, Erlinda Delos Reyes.
In a report published by ABS-CBN News, he was quoted as saying:
“May bag na nabilin, sige i-log natin, so pag-open ko may tab (tablet), sa kabila may dalawang sobre. Sige bilangin, tapos may ticket, ganito ang pangalan, may calling card so tinawagan ni ma’am.”
According to ABS-CBN, Simplicio was originally from Manila. When he finally arrived in the airport, he quickly went to the restroom. He admitted that he did forget about his black sling bag that was placed behind the door.
He explained:
“I forgot about my bag, I don’t know. Normally kasi it’s always inside my hand-carry bag, so all the while I thought it was there. I got my check-in baggage and went to the hotel, then I got a call from Erlinda.”
Meanwhile, Simplicio can’t thank Ronnie enough for returning his belongings. He revealed that the cash will be used for the salary of his employees.
He said:
“Sabi ko napaka-honest naman ng mga tao dito kasi easily naman they can keep it, in Manila nawala ang tab (tablet) ko, wala na, and then I found it, nasa Tondo. Sabi ko nga ang suwerte ko naman mga honest naman ng mga tao dito.”
Due to his honesty, Ronnie will be given a commendation and a token.
