Let this serve as warning to parents of young children to never leave their kids alone in the streets. A four-year-old boy died in Manila after he was run over by a vehicle on a street in Brgy. 369 in Tondo, Manila. Obtained CCTV footage showed that the victim sat in the middle of the cemented road while his playmates went away and left him alone.
According to the TV Patrol report of Jervis Manahan, the young victim was identified as Mark Zian Galicia.
After a few minutes of being alone, a red SUV suddenly made a turn on the street, apparently the driver, named Rosario Castro, did not notice the young boy. She was on her way to an out-of-town trip.
Upon realizing that she ran over something, she went down to check and saw the bloodied body of Mark Zian.
She frantically put her vehicle in reverse to extract and remove the injured kid while bystanders watched the events unfolding.
Rosario immediately hailed a tricycle where she placed the young boy inside. His mother, Maricris Galicia, suddenly went outside and accompanied her son to the hospital.
However, Mark Zian didn’t make it, and was declared dead on arrival.
Maricris vowed justice for her son, telling TV Patrol, “Kahit mamatay ka nang paulit-ulit, hindi mo mababayaran yung buhay ng anak ko.”
She also said that vehicles do not usually pass in their part of the neighborhood.
“Eto pong area na ito, hindi naman po ito daanan ng sasakyan talaga,” she said.
According to Maricris, her son only asked permission to buy ‘merienda’ but she was surprised to hear that her four-year-old was suddenly involved in a fatal accident.
Efren Santos, a councilor at Brgy. 369, noted that this was the first time an accident happened at Tiago Street. According to him, the driver even followed the victim and his mother to Chinese General Hospital where the kid was promptly brought.
The erring driver is already in the custody of Manila Traffic Bureau, while the vehicle was impounded. Rosario will face charges of reckless impudence resulting in homicide.
